The Universal Law of Giving

In these challenging times, more than ever, you can change your life for the better by a sincere daily practice of the Universal Law of Giving.

I fondly recall the words of Deepak Chopra when, prior to a meditation retreat that he was conducting, he expounded on his view of the Universal Law of Giving. See if his words resonate with you.

The universe always works in a dynamic exchange with your body, mind, and the environment. In nature, giving and receiving are different aspects of the flow of energy in the universe, and are what permit the continual bounty we enjoy in life. It is through this vital flow that everything you want and need can be yours.

There are only two constraints. What you seek must be good for you and cause no harm to you or others. And second: It should make the world a better place—even just a little.

Life blooms through the glow of giving and receiving. Nothing is static. Our bodies flourish through dynamic and constant exchange with the universe. Your cells thrive through cooperation with one another, as do all of your organs. Your blood must flow freely. Stopping its flow would create coagulation just as forking the flow of a river creates stagnation.

Nature similarly provides us with a perfect symphony. The sun gives warmth for seed pods to sprout. Rain brings much needed moisture to crops, which subsequently give us food to nourish our bodies. Nowhere in the natural world does hoarding exist. The process of giving and receiving is a crucial part of nature’s abundance.

In this way the Universal Law of Giving is very simple. If you want joy, give joy to others; if love is what you seek, offer love; if you want material affluence then help others become prosperous. The easiest way to get what you want is to circulate the flow of abundance and help others get what they want and what they need.

To have the good things in life, learn to silently honor and acknowledge others for the good things in their life—by pleasant thoughts, good wishes, appreciation, compliments, or even a sincere smile.

The more you give, the more you will receive. Abundance is simply another name for universal good, which is always available to you as a conscious, loving, and compassionate being.

By accepting life’s goodness and offering it to others, you will create true abundance in your own life.

Today, consider practicing the Universal Law of Giving, by offering a small gift to those you encounter. The gift needn’t be expensive or of any monetary value at all—a flower, a smile, a heartfelt compliment, a helping hand or a silent caring thought—and remain open to gratefully receiving all gifts that are offered to you.

Consider starting each day with this powerful thought, “I nourish the universe, and the universe nourishes me. Today, and every day, I give that which I want to receive.”

Enjoy your journey! Make a difference!

Namaste,
